About the Poems

INSPIRATION

The poems in this category are motivating and moving. They speak to a truth and blossom with hope.  Their positivity is meant to energize the reader.

IMAGES

This is my favorite category as it stretches the skill of the poet to create a visual through the use of a few well-chosen words.

THOUGHTS AND REFLECTIONS

This category is broad and blended. Often a recurring event inspired a thought, an insight, a different perspective of an otherwise common occurrence or item. My hope is that these poems encourage mindfulness and reflection in what we see repeatedly in our day-to-day life.

MEMORIES

This category is a transition from the “Forever and Ever” poems that conveyed the story of my struggle with Ken’s battle with cancer. Having laid him to rest in our hometown of Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada on September 8, 2022, it was now time to pen my memories branded on my heart from here on end.

CHILDREN’S POEMS

This category was designed for my grandchildren to introduce them to the power and magic of poetry. The poems reflect their character as seen through my eyes and will grow with them. My hope is they will share them with their friends over time and expand this website to a young audience.

TRAVEL

I started this category in the hopes of continuing Ken’s and my passion for travel. I wanted to give meaning to JRR Tolkien’s quote “ Not all those who wander are lost”. Even though I feel very physically lost without him, I have to trust that the use of poetry to convey an image or a thought will connect the triangle of passion between him, me, and our shared love of travel. My “solo” travels begin with Sicily.

FOREVER AND EVER

“Forever and Ever” is a tribute to a truly remarkable human being, my husband of 42 memorable years. Ken’s battle with cancer was very private. He did not want people to pity him. It was his “living will” that it be kept undisclosed. Thus, few people knew his plight. This section chronologically re-counts my emotions through poetry. His resolve to soldier on in spite of the poor prognosis was to be an example to his children, Lindsay and Tyler. His message to them was - “Never give up when adversity strikes.” Tyler summed it up referencing “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Lindsay and I concur.

SPECIAL SPACES

Everyone has their special place. Mine is the home my husband and I built in the mountains of western North Carolina. It was my husband’s brainchild, a place of ambiance and inspiration to fulfill my dream of writing.
