Canadian Hope

Imagine driving down a winding road

A path of lesser choice

Uncertain twists and turns unfold

Thoughts of being lost ring in my inner voice

Then suddenly along the way

A flock of birds pass overhead

A v-shaped form in sky so gray

To signal winter’s coming dread

And as they fade against the sky

I remember that they personify

Escape to warmth in short supply

That nature need not quantify

A rush of hope then fills my heart

Fond memories of past times well spent

Feeding Canada’s majestic geese afore depart

And with their leave a message sent

“No matter how dreary be the day

Fear not, as we will guide your way”

CANADIAN HOPE - SYNOPSIS

This poem was written about 2 months after Ken was given the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The higher elevation of the mountains showed the changing colors of autumn before the lowlands. How regal it appeared! Under normal circumstances, I would embrace this time of year. It was my favorite, the season I chose for our wedding day. With all its beauty, this visual could not quell my feelings of being lost. My mind circled back to our home in Winnipeg and the majestic, honking Canadian geese on our backyard pond. I smiled with that thought. Comfort blanketed my soul knowing I could always count on the Canadian geese to find my way.
