Emma's Cheer

EMMA’S CHEER

emmaE emmaM emmaM emmaA

I can spell. I can write. I can draw. I can play.

I am 3. No more 2. No more 1. On to 4.

I will run. I will sing. I will dance. I will roar.

THE STORY

Emma is my third grandchild but the first to introduce this category of children’s poems. Her boundless energy captivated me the very first day she started to walk and ran ever since then, usually on her tiptoes. She reminded me of Peter Pan’s companion, Tinker Bell, as she flittered around the room having translocated the wings to her feet. Thought to be an aspiring athlete like her parents, I was amazed how creative she was in drawing, crafting, and singing. Her path in life will always carry my interest. Emma’s entry poem is written in the style of Dr. Seuss called anapestic tetrameter for the more scholarly poets.
