COVID 19
Rigid in stealth crouch
Shrouded in distrust and fear
The beast stalks its prey
THE POWER OF COVID
Fear darkens the mind
Spews poison around the heart
Yet hope still remains
FLORIDIANS’ FATE
Quarantine cancelled
Florida rushes ahead
From beaches to morgue
HAIKU POEMS - SYNOPSIS
These poems are written in the Haiku format (3 stanzas with 5/7/5 syllables). It is an ancient form of expression that uses sensory language to create an image or express a truth. Its power is in the use of simplicity and intensity to message through vivid imagery.
These three poems were written during the Covid pandemic. The first introduces the virus onto the earth. The second describes its power and the third reminds us that our decision to end the confinement is really in the realm of the virus. Florida quickly challenged the virus within three months of its appearance in the state and opened up the state, determined only to protect the vulnerable. The last line in the poem reveals the victor.
