Happy Hour

As sure as the rising sun

And the darkness that ensues

The clock pauses at four

15010 will have all the news

Bottles in hand and glasses too

A badger brigade untamed

Marches across to share stories

Problem solving the endgame

Some count their saved points

While others measure pours

Howling laughter overflows

Not one person is bored

As the clock moves to five

Attendees drift home smiling content

With knowledge this hour

Is forever an hour well spent

HAPPY HOUR - SYNOPSIS

Where is your special place at day’s end? Do you march off to the gym for that endorphin surge? Perhaps you are the type that prefers quiet meditation at a yoga class. As a retiree, the time constraints of work become a shadow of the past. However, on a prescribed day, at four o’clock, a group of neighbors would head over in badger-like brigade to one designated home where stories were exchanged and world problems editorialized often with tenacity. In that one hour, laughter and friendship glued the resolve for it to be a recurring calendar event. Not sure we ever accomplished much, but I always left with a smile and a feeling of security and gratitude.
