As predictable as the winter solstice
As sure as the Northern Lights
The message arrives
Silently at the bedside
Void of fanfare or elaboration
Ignited from a pilot light deep within
Prose or poem
Carefully and thoughtfully chosen
Forty times over
It has graced my existence
No matter where I be
On that one day
The card appears
Penned “With Love, Ken”
THE CARD – SYNOPSIS
Everyone’s heroic deed involves context. It doesn’t have to be a glorious battle of Homer’s “The Iliad and The Odyssey” stature. Although Ken didn’t write his own poetry or prose, he carefully chose his cards to honor my birthday. Each and every year, “in sickness and in health”, no matter where we happened to be, the card appeared at my bedside. I will miss this simple act the most.
