The Bane of the Digital Age

Thoughts and prayers for human interactions,

The digital age enters front stage;

Faceless texts with muted voices

Convey emotions often poorly gauged.

Pray tell, how do I say I love you?

Uppercase, lowercase, emojis interspersed;

Absent  facial  subtleties  with  choreographed  words

Leave contextual meaning place first.

Can you feel the warmth, hear my sigh

Experience the magnetism dreamfully

As I send this text via silent keyboard:

I  LOVE YOU  emoji  emoji.

THE BANE OF THE DIGITAL AGE - SYNOPSIS

Texting and technology, in general, has moved us forward in many areas except human relations where there has been retrograde movement in people being able to interact and communicate meaningfully.  The nuances of facial expression and voice tones frame the English language, giving it life.  Words alone can be naked, hollow, and taken out of context without the aid of eye contact and voice.

The depth of this despair in the poem is conveyed in the writer’s plea to be able to text her message of love with the passion she feels.
