The Hymn of the Hummingbird

As regal as regal can be

Head skyward, whirring wings

In suspension, formed easily;

Melodic notes do ring

Come close, my wind shall dry your tears

Push forward all sadness;

Allay haunting unspoken fears

His absence breeds madness

Follow me, my friend, near and far

To lands you loved to comb;

For in the end, your guiding star

Will be where you felt home

The epitaph on mountain stone

Bears witness to your bond;

For all eyes to read when alone

With hope kinship be spawned.

“ Forever and Ever

This mountain shall be

Along side us

In Eternity”

THE HYMN OF THE HUMMINGBIRD - SYNOPSIS

The hummingbirds are plentiful at my mountain home in North Carolina. The hymnal whir of their wings seem to message a call to travel, reassuring me that in the end, they will always return with me to the place where my heart is home. There is a stone on the mountain I had engraved with an epitaph. Although meant for Ken and I, there is intent that all who visit and read this will also feel the same bond to this beautiful landscape.
